APA102 / SK9822 LED strip (clock + data) with ESP32
Supply 5 V
Bus SPI
Pins and ESP32 wiring
| Pin | Role | ESP32 pin | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5V | Power | VIN | Pin order varies between boards: match by the printed label. Use VIN for a few LEDs; a separate 5 V supply for more (up to 60 mA per LED) |
| CI | SPI clock | D18 | Clock in. Works with SPI; a 3.3 V to 5 V level shifter makes it reliable |
| DI | SPI MOSI | D23 | Data in. Has no chip select: give the strip its own SPI bus |
| GND | Ground | GND |
Suggested wiring for the 30-pin ESP32 DevKit, avoiding flash, input-only and strapping pins. BoardPilot checks it for you as you wire.
This module is sold for 5 V. Its outputs may be 5 V: use a level shifter or a voltage divider on ESP32 inputs.
