L298N with Teensy 4.1
Wiring for the L298N dual motor driver on the Teensy 4.1 (MIMXRT1062DVJ6B, 3.3 V logic), chosen with the same pin rules BoardPilot uses: default buses first, and no pins that are used for flash, USB, the debugger or booting.
Wiring
| L298N pin | Role | Teensy 4.1 pin | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| ENA | Input to the part | 2 (GPIO_EMC_04) | Motor A speed (PWM). Remove the jumper to use it |
| IN1 | Input to the part | 3 (GPIO_EMC_05) | Motor A direction |
| IN2 | Input to the part | 4 (GPIO_EMC_06) | Motor A direction |
| IN3 | Input to the part | 5 (GPIO_EMC_08) | Motor B direction |
| IN4 | Input to the part | 6 (GPIO_B0_10) | Motor B direction |
| ENB | Input to the part | 9 (GPIO_B0_11) | Motor B speed (PWM). Remove the jumper to use it |
| 12V | Not wired to the board | not connected | Motor supply 5 to 35 V from a separate supply |
| GND | Ground | G | |
| 5V | Not wired to the board | not connected | 5 V output of the on-board regulator (jumper on, supply up to 12 V) |
| OUT1 | Not wired to the board | not connected | Motor A |
| OUT2 | Not wired to the board | not connected | Motor A |
| OUT3 | Not wired to the board | not connected | Motor B |
| OUT4 | Not wired to the board | not connected | Motor B |
Check before you power it on
- Motors, servos, relays and LED strips can draw more current than the Teensy 4.1’s pins or USB can give. Power them separately and connect the grounds together.
Test code (Arduino)
// Motor A: ENA = speed (PWM), IN1/IN2 = direction. Remove the ENA jumper on the module.
void setup() {
pinMode(3, OUTPUT);
pinMode(4, OUTPUT);
pinMode(2, OUTPUT);
}
void loop() {
digitalWrite(3, HIGH);
digitalWrite(4, LOW);
analogWrite(2, 180); // about 70% speed
delay(2000);
analogWrite(2, 0); // stop
delay(1000);
}

Questions
Which Teensy 4.1 pins do I use for the L298N?
ENA → 2 (GPIO_EMC_04), IN1 → 3 (GPIO_EMC_05), IN2 → 4 (GPIO_EMC_06), IN3 → 5 (GPIO_EMC_08), IN4 → 6 (GPIO_B0_10), ENB → 9 (GPIO_B0_11), GND → G.
Does the L298N work with the Teensy 4.1 at 3.3 V?
Yes: the L298N runs at 5 V and the Teensy 4.1 uses 3.3 V signals, so no level shifting is needed.
BoardPilot checks this wiring in 3D as you build it, and finds crossed or missing wires on the real board.
